Sharks in Hawaii and Oahu Sharks

There are many types of sharks in Hawaii. Around 19 types of sharks make their homes in the waters of Hawaii, the Pacific Ocean. Everything from the pigmy shark to the whale shark make their home here in Hawaii. This of course is an absolute thrill of a lifetime to see. Shark tours in Hawaii you will encounter sandbar sharks, Galapagos and the occasional tiger shark. A few years back a great white shark was filmed off the coast of Haliewa. Although extremely rare this proves that great white sharks are capable of migrating to the far reaches of the globe in both cold and warm tropical seas.

Below is a list we put together of the shark species that one would find in the waters of Hawaii. Having a Hawaii shark encounter is not an everyday adventure. Having shark encounters in Hawaii are a combination of luck, Mother Nature and being at the right place at the right time. Personally we have seen most of the sharks listed below except for the whale shark. We do know know the whale sharks are in Hawaii due to the video footage and pictures that are out there.
